Pro Note: Seasoning Your Crucible with Borax
To extend the life of your ceramic melting dish and prevent metal from sticking, it's essential to "season" it before its first use.

Place a small amount of borax (sodium borate) powder into the dish.

Heat the dish gently with a torch until the borax melts and forms a glassy coating over the entire inner surface.

Carefully tilt and rotate the dish to ensure the borax glaze coats the bottom and sides, including the pouring lip.
